Travel to El Segundo, CA

Getting There

Land in LAX.  This is a fairly easy airport to navigate.  Once you

get the feel for the airline layout and the buses going to the rental

car lots you will have it made.  One of the nice things about rentals

here is that they still have discrete buses and rental lots.  No

omnibuses to football field rental lots.

 Where to Stay

These days there are a plethora of suites and first rate hotels in the

area.  My favorites are still the Residence in on El Segundo Blvd and

the Hilton Garden Inn a few blocks north of there on Mariposa Ave.

 Where to Eat

El Segundo is blessed with many great but affordable restaurants.

 My favorites include:

 - Houston’s – This is a chain but the quality level has been kept high

in the eleven years that I have been going there.  They have ribs that fall apart

with a fork.  I found their recipe for these on the web and duplicated them,

but it is an all day cook affair.  Their Jack Daniels steaks are fantastic

along with their dips and other add on’s.

 - The Farm Stand – This is a fantastic Continental restaurant.  Everything

on the menu is done with quality.  There is a Moroccan influence that is delicious.

 - If you work late and would enjoy take-in, there is Bristol Farms.  This

famous grocery offers a large variety of pre cooked dishes.  If you are

fortunate enough to have a refrigerator, you can purchase these, the salads

and cheeses for later in the week. Some say it is too expensive and getting

waited on can be tricky.  There is also a Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and a

Fresh & Easy within a quarter of a mile that serve the same purpose.

 Laundry

The hotels charge a fortune for dry cleaning.  I suggest using Patterson

Dry Cleaners on Manhattan Beach, just a few miles south of El Segundo

on Sepulveda Blvd.  They’ve been around for over thirty years and are

 very competent.

 Where to Lift

There are three superb gyms in the area.  The Spectrum Club is an upper end

place where you will see famous sportsmen.  The 24 Hour Fitness and Gold’s Gym

are hard core get-in-and-out lifting gyms.

 Groceries

Ralphs has everything and they are sprinkled throughout the area.  You can

buy wine at Ralphs so no need for liquor stores.  Ralph’s deli and precooked

items are cheaper than the Bristol Farms type places and every bit as good.

 Cool Sights

From El Segundo you can travel north to Santa Barbara or south to Laguna and

New Port Beaches.  Manhattan and Redondo Beaches are also very nice.
